The Wayward Child
The
wayward child, a prodigal,
Comes home repentant, filled with grief.
He’s squandered his inheritance
But begs his father for reprieve.
Refrain: A Father’s love forgives His child
And welcomes him back home again.
A Father’s joy restores His child
And her salvation He sustains.
When wayward sons – and daughters, too,
Turn in repentance, filled with grief,
Sensing the painful hurt of sin,
They simply trust God’s full reprieve. (Refrain)
Upon
His Son, the Crucified,
The Father’s wrath is placed with grief,
That on His child – the one baptized –
The Father grants His just reprieve. (Refrain)
